August(Buster) Powers, sculptor/metal smith and copper sculptor extraordinaire is one of the first artists of the gallery and has been creating his unique pieces for over 25 years. He has always had a creative nature and welding became his passion after taking a class at the local Keys community college. Moving to the Keys in 1958 with his family, his surroundings soon became his inspiration, as can be seen in his artistic creations. Buster creates the whimsical sea-life musical instruments that have become an integral part of the Underwater Musical Festival held for the 35th year this year. His past instruments from the festival are displayed in the gallery’s front window during the month of July. His latest tri-fish creation on display at Artists in Paradise has inspired a tattoo.
